What Is the Best Way to Make A Long-Distance Move?

Movers bucks countyPlanning a successful move takes a lot of hard work and effort. When your move is going to be long-distance, it will require more preparation for it to work out. Below are some tips for a successful long-distance move that anyone can use.

  1. Plan Ahead Accordingly

Moving is a major life event. To make sure it goes smoothly, you need to take time and plan. At least three months prior, start researching moving companies to obtain quotes and have them booked. You do not want to have to worry about finding a moving company at the last minute.

  1. Obtain Estimates

The next step in your plan should be to get a moving estimate. Representatives from your preferred moving companies will come and do a survey of all your belongings and create an estimate based on where you will be moving to. Be wary of moving companies that do not want to give you an in-home survey. This may mean you are dealing with a moving broker and not an actual moving company. Brokers will contract your move out to local companies and won’t take charge if issues arise.

  1. Downsize and Purge

A long-distance move can get very expensive when you have a lot of belongings. Before you get packing, consider looking through all your stuff and get rid of things you no longer need. Create a pile of items to donate, things you want to sell and things that should be thrown away. A great idea is to have a yard sale to make some money to put towards your move.

  1. Label Boxes

If you plan to pack your belongings yourself, take the time to label your boxes while packing them. On the outside of each box, make a list of all the items that are inside. Be sure to add which room a box is supposed to go in to make unloading into your new home much quicker.

  1. Move During the Offseason

If the cost of a long-distance move has you stressing, plan to move during the offseason. Moving companies are busier during the summer months and will charge more. It can also be more difficult to find a moving company in Bucks County that is available during the summer if you don’t plan early enough. If you can, plan your long-distance move during the winter, spring or fall season.

These are just some of the tips to help make a long-distance move easier. If you are moving for work, you will be able to deduct some of the moving costs from your taxes.
